Communications Courses

Managerial Economics

This course provided me with a new appreciation and understanding of economics. It did this by applying economic concept to situations frequently encountered in a managerial setting and supplied students with the means necessary to understand the global economy and how it effects business on both a large and small scale.


Personal Financial Management

This course provided me with the basic skills needed to control my own finances as well as giving me the information necessary to make informed financial decisions in a business setting. This course focused on personal financial planning, including time value of money, stock and bond investment, and retirement and estate planning.


Management and Strategy

This course introduced me to key information used in a managerial setting. From this course I have taken away a greater understanding of the roles of management. The course focused on management in organizations with an emphasis on decision-making, formulating strategies, leadership, motivation, planning, and social responsibility.

Uses of Accounting

This course supplied me with a greater understanding of the various uses of accounting information in an organizational setting. It focused on the evolution of accounting practices and provided me with the means necessary to evaluate accounting information and its uses for internal and external purposes.


Introduction to Selling

This course educated me on the various skills necessary to become an accomplished salesperson. It focused on terminology, practices, and applications in various organizational settings as well as preparing students to enter the workforce. The skill sets learned through this course can be applied to a variety of job setting.


Real Estate Fundamentals

This course provided me with the knowledge needed to successfully manage real estate practices in a competitive market. It focused on real estate fundamentals including, terminology, practices, and regulations as well as observing the house buying process and analyzing a small investment property through case studies.

Human communication

This course introduced me to the basic concepts pertaining to human communications. It focused on basic terminologies and practices, including gender, identity, organizations and relationships. Through this course I learned about performance studies, rhetoric, intercultural, interpersonal, and organizational communications. As an introductory course this class prepared me for future communication courses.


Communication in Business and the Professions

This course applied typical business communications in a small group setting. I learned how to conduct effectively and efficiently in a group setting by creating a hypothetical company and overcoming obstacles that are typified in the business world. This was also paired with organizational communication studies and oral presentations.


Writing for the Professions

This course prepared me for entering the business world through the education of professional writing techniques. The focus of this course was to help transition students from academic writing convections to professional business writing conventions. Through Writing for the Professions I learned how to analyze my audience, how to recognize ethical implications of business communications, develop clear, concise, persuasive and ethical business rhetoric, as well as team work skills and collaboration.


Intergroup Dialogues

This course was one of the many research classes offered in communications. The topic of my specific class was Secrets, Spin, and Lies: Examining Misinformation in Various Contexts. The focus of this class was to research why and how secrets and lies are produces and observe the implications the misinformation has on the subjects involved. This course taught me communication ethics and the impact miscommunication can have on multiple levels.


Gender and Communication

This course revealed the relationship between gender and communication. Through this class I learned all that encompass the definition of gender as well as the connection gender plays in our personal identity, experiences, and position in society.


Conflict and Negotiation

This course revealed the various ways conflict occurs in our society. Through this course I learned what conflict is, the different contexts and environments conflict occurs in, and ways to manage conflict. Conflict and Negotiation provided me with an increased awareness pertaining to conflict and communication competency.
